I Serve at the Pleasure of POTUS

5th May, 2004. 2:43 am. Topic from April 4th

How Do You Handle Confrontation?

The last confrontation I can remember was at the bar, when those guys were bothering Zoe.

I don't think I'm a weak person. But I do try to be a peaceful person. So I really didn't want to use violence. Luckily I had my backup of West Wing staffers and we all got out without a problem. Zoe wouldn't be so lucky next time...

But on the whole, I don't think I shy away from confrontation- it's a big part of politics to be able to introduce yourself to someone and convince them to look at an issue the same way you do. But I also think that as far as violence goes, I don't like it. I don't want to be violent, I don't want to see others being violent.

With one exception:
If I ever find the son of a bitch who killed my mother, I will kill him with my bare hands. I don't care what happens to me. He destroyed my life, and I think it's only fair for me to be able to destroy his.

That's why I hope they never find him. I don't want to think about the consequences.

I'm sorry I took so long to post this. I'm pretty far behind on work, and the President doesn't exactly get a day off.

Current mood: pensive.

22nd February, 2004. 6:53 pm. Cross Posting because I can.

I love to laugh. And that's probably the best part of having my job. My co-workers are very funny people.

I love CJ. I love making her laugh. I love playing tricks on her, I love playing tricks on everyone else with her. She's a fantastic woman, full of spunk and wit and beauty. I am proud to call her my friend.

Toby is funny all the time. Even when he's not being funny. Sarcasm oozes out of his pores and he is so smart. Toby is a great man.

Donnatella Moss makes me laugh. She is one funny woman. I love hearing stories about funny things she's done. I love the story about Donna's panties being sent to Josh by messenger, and she not only had dropped them at the south street exhibit, but everybody knew they were hers because she sewed her name in them! But Donna's also a beautiful and brilliant person, full of love and clever banter whenever she sees Josh.

Speaking of Josh Lyman, they don't get much funnier than that. Josh's sarcasm is incredibly endearing because underneath it all he is secretly very thoughtful. Josh is a great guy.

Sam is also absolutely hilarious. I have so many favorite Sam moments I don't know what to pick. Sam telling Mallory (when he didn't know she was Leo's daughter) that he slept with a call girl ("well, this is wrong on so many levels"), Sam following Josh down the hallway and then realizing they both were following each other and had nowhere to go (sorry Josh, I know you told Sam not to tell anyone but it got around anyway). Sam is also very smart, and a very good friend.

Leo and the president are very funny together. They make me laugh. Leo makes me laugh when he's not being angry and intimidating. Leo's a really wise and kind man, I enjoy talking to him.

The other aides make me laugh, too. Cathy, when she eats Sam's donuts. Margaret every time she opens her mouth because she's so quirky.

Spending so much time with the President is very inspiring. Not only because he's a doctor of economics and he's so kind and passionate about his job, but because he approaches so many things with a sense of humor. It keeps him from going crazy, but more than that, it allows him to keep things in perspective. He's a brilliant, kind and funny man. I am honored to work for him. This will be the best thing I'll ever do in my entire life. I will be forever proud.

Current mood: amused.

19th February, 2004. 2:57 pm. Introduction

I guess an introduction is in order so you know who I am and why I'm writing.

Hi, I'm Charlie Young. I'm the personal aid to Josiah Bartlet, the President of the United States.

I don't know what else to say... I have a younger sister named Dena, and she's in High School. I took this job so I could support our family, which is just me and Dena. Our mother was killed in the line of duty a few years ago, and our father's been gone since we were little. When Dena gets through college, hopefully I'll get to go, but I really dread President Bartlet's exit from the White House because I think he's the best President we've ever had. It'll be hard to go back to "normal" life after such a rewarding and also insanely crazy experience.

I used to date the President's daughter, but she left me for a french guy, and now I'm single and in the market. But I don't really have time for anything, so I guess that will have to wait until the President is out of office as well. Unless I decided to date Donna or CJ, but somehow I think I'd be treading into Josh and Toby's territory, respectively. *winks*

I have to go get the President ready for his meeting with the Secretary of Finances. I'll write again soon.

Current mood: busy.
